A fall protection safety programme is developed to provide guidance where fall protection is required. Further, it provides specific procedures for the proper installation and use of fall protection systems. Items to consider are: Is a fall protection system required? What type of systems can be used? Have employees received training in the fall protection plan? Are rescue plans in place in the event of a fall? Are the walking/working surfaces capable of supporting the employees and their equipment? Are employees exposed to falling objects? A fall protection programme protects persons on any walking/ work ing surface which is 2 meters or more above a lower level.
Fall protection procedures are required to protect employees from the easily identifiable dangers associated with working at height. The fall protection programme also includes instructions for persons who are at ground level adjacent to an excavation.
